Although it requires a steep detour from the town, the effort is totally worth it just for the views. It's the perfect spot for a picnic.

San Salvador Monastery (Cornellana)

A majestic Benedictine monastery founded in 1024, considered one of the jewels of the "Camino Primitivo". This National Monument stands out for its impressive Baroque facade and unique Romanesque details, such as the famous "The Bear" sculpture.

Look for the "La Osa" (The Bear) sculpture on the outer door. It's a unique Romanesque symbol and the legendary protector of the monastery.

Ask for the keys at the Tourist Office located right next to it in the same square if the door are locked

Valdés-Salas Tower & Pre-Romanesque Museum

Medieval tower and 16th-century palace are National Monuments. They were the home of Fernando de Valdés, the founder of the University of Oviedo.

Climb to the top of the tower for the best views of the town. Entry is only 2€ and includes a guided tour
